Ok. So maybe soccer moms were not sent notice of Toyota’s rumored Prius sport wagon/SUV currently in development, but maybe someone should. Though the Prius is a more than spacious 4-door, there is still a large segment of the population that still feels they need even more space, headroom, and girth in a car in order to carry those ever so large bags of groceries and other daily cargo that the rest of the ‘non-SUV’ demographic seems to find a way to handle just fine. But I digress.
According to the Yomiuri newspaper in Japan, Toyota is considering the production of the yet to be determined Prius hybrid sport wagon and/or SUV in the next year. Though the addition of a hybrid Prius wagon/SUV would be something entirely new for the Prius brand publicly, Toyota has been mulling over the possibility of a Prius SUV for almost 4 years now. Back in 2007 at the Geneva Motor Show, the company unveiled its Hybrid X sport wagon which by the look and feel of the concept, could easily qualify as a Pirus wagon.
No designs for the actual production Prius sport wagon/SUV have been unveiled, or even confirmation of the rumors that such a vehicle is actually in development, but whatever the case may be, Toyota has lots of ‘out-of-the-box’ models and concepts it could readily choose from already; meaning this rumored vehicle could hit the streets before you know it.

The Good: A larger hybrid vehicle that will appeal to a larger demographic that at present is not very well served when it comes to real fuel-efficiency.
The Bad: Still just a rumor with no vehicle specifications or dates production may begin.
The Bottom-Line: Though still merely a rumor, Toyota’s past is indicative of further progress and model innovation. Don’t be surprised to see this car on the streets in the next few years.
