Though I’m sure the day when you can control everything in your house via your iPhone is coming quite soon, for now, you’ll have to settle for just adjusting your thermostat. More specifically, your ecobee Smart Thermostat which can do more than just holding a household temperature.
A new free ecobee iPhone/iPod Touch app released this week will allow owners of ecobee Smart Thermostats control them from anywhere in the world. Say you’ve left on vacation and forgot to set your thermostat accordingly. No problem! Just find a wi-fi or 3G connection and you’re good to go. The app’s interface is the exact same one owners see on their thermostat at home so there’s no learning curve associated. The Smart Thermostat can also be controlled via a web portal on their site. So even if you don’t have an iPhone/iPod Touch, the thermostat can still be controlled via the website.
The Good: Save more energy by more accurately controlling your home’s HVAC.
The Bad: While the ecobee Smart Thermostat is one of the most advanced and energy efficient thermostats out there, it’s also $459.
The Bottom-Line: Another means by which homeowners can be make their homes more energy efficient.
