New All-Electric Ducati Has A Top Speed Of 15MPH

ducatiCityPearl

HA! I bet you thought the finest makers of Italian motorcycles had lost their edge. No they haven’t; they have actually just leant their name to a new electric motor-assisted bicycle made called the City Pearl by the Italwin Group.

Ironically enough, Ducati’s first foray into the word of two-wheeled transportation began with a bicycle called the Cucciolo which consisted of a four-stroke engine mounted onto a bicycle frame.

Coming full circle now, the City Pearl’s specs are comparable to other electric bicycles already on the market. Powered by a six-volt 9Ah Panasonic lithium ion battery pack,  the City Pearl is a front wheel assisted Shimano equipped seven-speed that sends the rider’s power to the back wheel. The 250W brushless electric motor is capable of propelling the bike to 24 kilometers per hour (about 15 mph). The bike will be available at Ducati dealerships across Europe starting january.

The Good: Another cleaner electric-powered option for personal transportation. Like a Ducati motorcycle, the thing looks damn good.

The Bad: The Ducati name is sure to add a few hundred more Euros to the price of an otherwise average electric bicycle. Available only in Europe at Ducati dealerships.

The Bottom-Line: A nice looking electric bike with a name synonymous with excellent design and performance…even though they had little to do with its design
